Flinders Highway crash investigated as female passenger confirmed dead

The Forensic Crash Unit from Townsville is investigating what caused a fatal traffic crash near Charters Towers, that killed a female passenger in her 50’s.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Flinders Highway and Archers Road, in Breddan near Macrossan Bridge, around 4pm yesterday.

A Holden Epica and a Hyundai Kona were involved in a head-on collision and a woman in her 50s was suffering life threatening injuries – she was later declared dead at the scene.

The driver of the Epica, a woman in her 40s, is fighting for her life after sustaining significant injuries. She was taken to Townsville Hospital in critical condition. The driver of the Kona, a man in his 50s, was also taken to Townsville Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Anyone with relevant information, CCTV or dashcam vision is urged to contact police as investigations are ongoing.
