Housing, crime and healthcare were some of the tops focuses for The Crisafulli Government’s first state budget handed down yesterday, with the premier announcing a boost to our frontline with 1,600 police recruits and $560 million for new early intervention and rehabilitation programs.

The Crisafulli Government will also deliver $147.9 million in operational equipment upgrades for frontline officers, including $47.7 million over two years to purchase more than 6,500 state-of-the-art Taser 10s for police across Queensland.

Townsville is also set to host Queensland’s first Crime Prevention School, aimed at re-engaging students at risk of falling into youth crime. However, there was no word on funding for the city’s youth detention centre.

Townsville Enterprise say they’re also celebrating some major wins in the Queensland Budget — including $2.6 billion in regional investment. From the $1.4 billion boost for CopperString, to 2 billion toward housing over 4 years and 9 billion to Bruce Highway upgrades, TEL CEO Claudia Brumme Smith says it shows the government is backing North Queensland’s future.
