Onlookers help Perth sexual assault victim

Police say a woman who was sexually and physically assaulted in Perth's CBD could have been more seriously injured if not for members of the public intervening.

The woman in her 20s was attacked by a man on Aberdeen St at about 4.20am on Sunday while walking to her car after finishing work.

It's alleged the man, who has since been arrested, approached and asked her for money, then attacked her when she declined.

Nearby residents and members of the public came to the woman's aid when they heard her screaming.

The woman received facial, head and neck injuries and was taken to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment.

A 27-year-old Kellerberrin man has been charged with multiple offences including aggravated sexual penetration without consent.

He was due to face Perth Magistrates Court on Sunday.
