Townsville is facing a skills shortage in some vital trades and professions, but Council's taking steps to address the problem.

Applications are open now for the Council’s 2023 trainee and apprenticeship program

It is hoped it will help kick-start the careers of those interested in heavy commercial vehicles, business and IT, as well as others trying to re-enter the workforce.

Mayor Jenny Hill says applications were open for several sought-after trades and professions.

“Some of the disciplines we are looking for this year include trainee and apprenticeships in mobile plant tech, heavy commercial vehicles, business, electrical, horticulture, IT service support, laboratory techniques and civil construction," Cr Hill says.
