A West Mackay man has been charged in relation to a fatal traffic crash, south of Townsville.

The 62-year-old man is being accused of dangerously operating a motor vehicle causing death, following the collision of two trucks at Julago on November 25, last year.

It is alleged the crash occurred at 10pm, where a B-double and a semi-trailer collided on the Bruce Highway, just north of the Townsville Crematorium.

Police say the B-double remained on the roadside and the flatbed trailer came to rest on the embankment of the highway.

A 64-year-old man from Gulliver died at the scene.

The West Mackay man has been charged with a number of offences relating to the crash including use of mobile phones, false and misleading information and six charges of information required to be recorded immediately after starting work.

He is due to appear in the Mackay Magistrates Court on December 8.
