Police assaulted and bitten at Ayr

Two men accused of assaulting police at Ayr will face the Townsville Magistrates Court today.

Around 3am on Sunday, officers responded to reports of a large group causing a disturbance and fighting outside a food takeaway shop on Queen Street.

Three constables were allegedly attacked by two men before they were arrested.

It's alleged that the officers were left with bruising, grazes and bite marks, resulting in hospitalisations.

Two 23-year-old men have been charged with serious assault police officer causing bodily harm, serious assault police officer, serious assault police by biting/spitting and commit public nuisance.

One of the men has also been charged with contravention of a Domestic Violence Order.
