Going armed so as to cause fear, Charters Towers

A man has been charged following an alleged incident in Charters Towers on Saturday night.

Police will allege around 10.45pm a man was refused entry to a licensed premises in Gill Street due to intoxication.

The man allegedly threatened security staff and then departed.

Around 11pm the man returned, allegedly brandishing a knife and walked towards security staff at the front of the premises.

The man raised the knife and threatened security staff.

He was disarmed and security staff restrained the man until police arrived shortly after and transported him to the Charters Towers Watchhouse.

A 38-year-old Charters Towers man was charged with going armed so as to cause fear, issued with a police banning notice until October 21 and is expected to appear in Charters Towers Magistrates Court on October 19.
