Staff at the West End Hotel have been left 'shaken' after a terrifying armed hold-up.

Police say two men armed with rifles stormed through the rear door of the building late on Sunday night, threatened staff and fleeing with money.

Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Hicks says they fled in a stolen silver commodore, which was later found abandoned at the intersection of Cambridge Street and Dalrymple Road.

"One of them was dressed in dark clothing and the other one was dressed in light clothing, however they were fully covered," he said.

"As part of our investigation, we need to go through the processes and identify who these offenders are and bring them to justice."

The car is being forensically examined, with the two suspects still at large.
