Senator joins call to resume search for missing sailors
A local politician is backing calls to continue the search for missing sailors in Japanese waters.
Among them is former JCU student Lukas Orda.
Japanese authorities called off the sea search last week, with calls for the Australian Government to renew the search.
Townsville-based Senator Susan McDonald said there is a chance survivors are awaiting rescue on life rafts after the ship sank two weeks ago.
“It has come to light via a change.org petition that the vessel's skipper was able to instruct most of the crew to board life rafts before the ship went down," she said.
“If there is any chance at all - no matter how slim - that there are people alive in life rafts, we should be doing everything possible to find them.”
