Serious assault on police, Thuringowa Central

A man has been charged with multiple offences after police located him walking in the middle of the road on Hinchinbrook Drive.

It will be alleged around 12:40am on Wednesday, the man sat in the middle of the road.

Police were forced to apply their brakes, to avoid hitting the man.

He ran from police and verbally abused them before he was arrested for public nuisance and obstructing police and was taken to the Townsville Watchhouse.

There, he allegedly spat at a watchhouse officer.

The 18-year-old Heatley man has been charged with one count each of public nuisance, obstructing police, unreasonably obstructing drivers and serious assault of a public officer performing their function.

He is next due to appear in the Townsville Magistrates court on August 19.
