Vegetation Fire Sparks South Of Townsville

UPDATE 11/9/19 | Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) crews remain on scene at a vegetation fire burning near the Bruce Highway in the vicinity of Killymoon Creek, Mackenzie Creek.

This fire is contained and there is no threat to property at this time.

QFES and QPWS crews will continue to the monitor the fire throughout the day.

Smoke is affecting the surrounding area, including the Bruce Highway.

Residents should close windows and doors, and keep respiratory mediations close by if possible.

Motorists should drive with caution and to conditions, and be mindful of crews working along the roadside.

EARLIER | A vegetation fire has sparked at Mount Elliot, south of Townsville.

It is burning at the base of Mount Elliot along the Bruce Highway between Killymoon Creek and Mackenzie Creek.

Firefighters are working with Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) crews to contain the fire and there is no threat to property.

Smoke is affecting the surrounding area, including the Bruce Highway.
