POLICE UPDATE | 9 Y O Drowns In Ross River
UPDATE | Police are preparing to provide an update on the drowning death of a little girl in the Ross River on Monday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Miles, Officer in Charge Child Abuse and Sexual Crimes will front the media at 8:00AM.
It comes after a nine-year-old girl had to be dragged from the water at Aitkenvale at around 4:30PM.
She died in hospital.
It comes after two little boys drowned in the Ross River back in February, following the flood disaster.
The bodies of Jhulio Sariago, 3, and Barak Austral, 5, were pulled from the river following a community-led search.
Their mother was later charged with manslaughter and is still before the courts.
EARLIER | A nine-year-old girl has lost her fight for life after being dragged from the Ross River on Monday.
Emergency crews were called to Aitkenvale at around 4:30PM.
The girl was rushed to Townsville Hospital but she has since passed away.
Child Protection Investigation Unit Detective Senior Sergeant David Miles told News Corp another child who was swimming as part of a group raised the alarm.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
