A 24-year-old Kirwan woman remains in custody following the sudden death of a 9-year-old boy.
Following a request for a welfare check, emergency services attended a Charles Street home around 7pm Saturday and found the child deceased.
Police allege he had been hit on the head with a blunt object and could have died eight hours before their arrival.
It’s understood the boy was living with the woman who had a “loose family connection” to him.
The woman was arrested at the scene without incident.
She has been charged with one count of murder and investigations into the circumstances of the boy’s death are continuing.
