Search for missing man in Plantation Creek, Ayr

UPDATE: Police divers are searching Plantation Creek in Ayr for missing man Selwyn Malayta.

The 48-year-old Ayr man went missing in Plantation Creek around 1.30am yesterday morning.

Selwyn and a second man were walking along Pool Street around 1am on September 14. They then tracked through a football field and the golf course before entering Plantation Creek between Kennedy Street and Edward Street.

One man returned to the creek bank and called to Selwyn but could not find him and did not see him exit the creek.

If anyone in the community has seen Selwyn in the last 48 hours, they are asked to contact police immediately.

 

EARLIER: A search and rescue is underway in Ayr for a man who went missing in Plantation Creek.

48-year-old Selwyn Malayta and a second man were walking along Pool Street around 1am yesterday before they tracked through a football field and the golf course and entered Plantation Creek between Kennedy Street and Edward Street.

One man returned to the creek bank and called to Selwyn but could not find him and did not see him exit the creek.

Selwyn is Aboriginal and is described as approximately 175cm tall, with a proportionate build and dreadlocks.

Police and SES are on scene searching the banks of Plantation Creek in the vicinity of Kennedy Street.

Members of the public are urged to avoid the search area as they may impact the police operation and the search.
