Five people and their blue heeler puppy are safe after their vessel sank off Cape Bowling Green yesterday morning.
Queensland Government Air Rescue 521 was dispatched around 6.30am following a beacon activation near Ayr. Crews arrived to find a seven‑metre vessel submerged and the group, aged between 28 and 50, in the water alongside their dog.
By 7.30am, all five and the puppy were rescued and flown back to Townsville, where they were reported to be in good health.

Authorities say investigations into the cause of the sinking are continuing, but praised the quick response that ensured a safe outcome.
