More than 700 people have been charged in North and Far North Queensland in what the Crisafulli Government is calling the largest police crackdown in the region in over a decade.
In Townsville alone, 424 offenders now face more than 1,400 charges, covering offences from property crime to weapons possession and drug production. Police also seized 17 weapons during over 1,400 wandings conducted as part of the operation.
Meanwhile, in Cairns, 284 people were charged with 1,180 offences.
The crackdown has been backed by the State Flying Squad, which has been deployed twice across the region in the past month to support local officers and target serious repeat offenders.
