Investigators wish to speak to the man in the footage, who may be able to assist with the investigation and are urging him to contact police.

Deputy Mayor Mark Molachino says it’s extremely disappointing and saddening to see a historical item stolen from Jezzine Barracks on Christmas Day.

“The stolen eagle flag pole topper was originally erected during World War II at the American Cemetery in Townsville before being added to Jezzine Barracks in 1992 – the eagle holds significant cultural and historical value for the people of Townsville,” Cr Molachino says.
