Police have charged an Alice River man after a road‑rage incident on Nathan Street in Heatley escalated into violence Wednesday morning. Officers say the drivers of a red Chevrolet ute and a white Ford hatchback became involved in a traffic dispute around 7.45am, which allegedly turned physical. A 68‑year‑old Shaw man was injured during the altercation and taken to Townsville University Hospital for treatment.

The southbound lanes of Nathan Street were closed for some time as emergency crews responded, causing significant delays during the morning peak. Police later confirmed they had charged a 51‑year‑old Alice River man over the incident.

Investigators are continuing to piece together the moments leading up to the confrontation and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from Nathan Street at the time to come forward.
