Police are investigating a third violent incident in Townsville’s CBD after a 32‑year‑old Deeragun man was stabbed in Dean Park on Tuesday night. The man told officers he was approached from behind by three or four unknown attackers before being stabbed, managing to escape to Victoria Bridge where he was found before 9pm.
He was taken to Townsville University Hospital in a potentially life‑threatening condition. Detectives are appealing for CCTV or dashcam from the area as investigations continue.
The attack follows two other serious incidents in the CBD in recent days. A 55‑year‑old Pimlico man was stabbed in the neck and robbed at an ATM on Flinders Street on Sunday night. Police have since arrested a 30‑year‑old man, charging him with unlawful use of a motor vehicle in relation to that case. A 60‑year‑old Pimlico man also suffered a brain bleed after an altercation near McDonalds in the CBD on February 22.
Townsville Mayor Nick Dametto says the violence is deeply concerning, describing the CBD as a place that should be safe and vibrant but continues to attract anti‑social behaviour. Police are urging anyone with information about any of the recent attacks to come forward.
