Four men charged in property crime crackdown

A Townsville police operation has resulted in 656 people charged with more than 2,500 offences this year.

Operation Cygnus has been targeting property offenders throughout the city.

Four men have become the latest repeat offenders to be charged as part of the operation.

The men aged 18-21 were arrested over the past fortnight and charged with 52 property, drug and traffic related offences.

An 18-year-old has been charged with two counts of armed robbery, three counts of enter premises with intent, one count of burglary, one count of enter premise and commit and one count of stealing.

A 19-year-old man has been charged with 18 offences including seven counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, four counts of stealing, three counts of burglary and commit an indictable offence, two counts of attempted enter dwelling with intent at night, one count of enter dwelling with intent at night, and one count of arson.

Another 19-year-old man has been charged with 15 offences including four counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, five counts of stealing, one count of receiving tainted property, three counts of enter premises with intent to commit indictable office, one count of enter dwelling with intent, one count of burglary and commit indictable offence.

The man was charged with a further nine offences including one count of possession of dangerous drugs, one count of fail to take reasonable care and precautions in respect of syringe or needle, one count of possess property suspected of having been used in connection with an offence, three counts of stealing, one count of unlawful use, one count of dangerous driving of a motor vehicle, driving of a motor vehicle without a driver’s license.

A 21-year-old has been charged with 11 offences including three counts of stealing, three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, one count of attempted enter premises with intent, one count of burglary and commit indictable offence, one count of enter dwelling with intent at night, one count of enter premises and commit indictable offence, and one count of fail to take reasonable care and precautions in respect of syringe or needle.

The four men have all faced the Townsville Magistrates Court and have been remanded in custody to re-appear later this year.
