The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast as tropical low will develop in the North Coral Sea this weekend – as well as another in the Gulf of Carpentaria – and could develop into a cyclone on Sunday.

The forecast comes after heavy rainfall is predicted for the Far North through to Thursday, following what has been the latest start to the wet season on record.

Miriam Bradbury from the Bureau says the area between Ayr and Cooktown will receive the heaviest and most persistent rainfall.
