The Bushland Beach community is in mourning after police confirmed that two young girls rescued from a house fire earlier this week have died from their injuries.

Emergency crews were called to the Gum Court home just after 5.30am on Sunday, where they arrived to find the property fully engulfed in flames. Two teenage boys managed to escape, while a two‑year‑old girl and a 13‑year‑old girl were pulled from the burning home in critical condition.

Both girls were rushed to Townsville University Hospital, but tragically passed away yesterday.

The Townsville Child Protection and Investigation Unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the fire, which remains non‑suspicious. Detectives are urging anyone with information or footage that may assist to come forward.

A GoFundMe has been set up to support the girls’ mother, a single mum and nurse at Townsville Hospital, who is now facing unimaginable grief and the overwhelming task of rebuilding her life. Locals are being encouraged to rally around the family during this incredibly difficult time.

Police say updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
