Outrage over theft and vandalism at one of our cities cemeteries.
Belgian Gardens Cemetery has seen reported theft of items and vandalism on gravesites in recent weeks.
The acting mayor slamming the conduct as thoughtless and beyond disappointing.
“It is unthinkable that any member of our community would engage in such senseless and cruel behaviour,” Ann-Maree Greaney said.
“Cemeteries are a sacred space and to have the safety of Belgian Gardens Cemetery desecrated by a handful of thoughtless and inconsiderate people is beyond disappointing,” she said.
“Each of these illegal acts has real impacts on families in our community. Residents should feel comfortable and safe paying their respects to their loved ones without fear of having mementos stolen or damaged.”
Anyone with any information is asked to come forward to police or anonymously via crimestoppers.
