An early‑morning crime spree through Townsville City has ended with three teenage girls behind bars after an alleged attempt to steal multiple cars from a Stanley Street unit complex.

Police were called just after 3.40am on June 9, following reports a group of teens were trying to break into vehicles in the underground carpark. Officers say the group caused damage to a Kia Sportage and a Toyota Hilux before allegedly managing to steal a white Ford Ranger and smashing through an access gate to escape.

The joyride didn’t last long with the Ranger crashing later on Stanley Street, with the teens allegedly bolting from the wreck on foot. Police tracked them down a short time later.
