The Port of Townsville has just taken a major step forward, with a $6.5 million upgrade now complete, and it’s already making a difference on the ground.
The project gives the port’s main ship‑to‑shore crane the ability to work across both Berths 3 and 4, meaning bigger vessels can be turned around faster and freight can move more efficiently.
More than 85 per cent of the work was carried out by local businesses, keeping jobs and investment right here in the region. Officials say the improvements will help ease congestion, support exporters and strengthen supply chains across the North.
The upgrade is part of a broader push to build a stronger, more efficient economy for North Queensland and with this project now complete, the Port of Townsville is better positioned to handle the growing demands of the region.
