A quiet Sunday morning in Bushland Beach turned tragic when a house fire left six people in hospital including two police officers who rushed in to save trapped children.
Emergency crews were called to Gum Court early Sunday, where they found the home engulfed in flames. A two‑year‑old girl and a 13‑year‑old girl were pulled from the burning property. Emergency crews performed CPR on the roof of the property before rushing the children to Townsville University Hospital in critical condition- they’re now stable.
Two teenage boys and two police officers were also treated for smoke inhalation after being exposed to heavy smoke during the rescue.
Authorities say the blaze is not being treated as suspicious, but fire investigators are still working to determine exactly how it started.
