The Bruce Highway is set for a major safety boost, with the Albanese and Crisafulli Governments announcing 22 new projects worth $500 million stretching from Gympie to Cairns.
This latest round of works forms part of the $9 billion Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program, which is designed to reduce crashes, strengthen the road surface, and make Queensland’s busiest transport corridor more reliable for the thousands of drivers who use it every day.
For North Queensland, the upgrades will focus on pavement strengthening between Bowen and Ayr, Ayr to Townsville and Townsville to Ingham.
These improvements will make roadS more resilient, particularly in wet weather, by boosting skid resistance and vehicle stability. The projects build on earlier works already underway across the state with six completed, eight under construction, and two more about to begin.
